Sarah Snook (born December 1, 1987) is an Australian actor. She portrayed Shiv Roy on the HBO series Succession.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Sarah Ruth Snook[1] was born on December 1, 1987,[2] in Adelaide, South Australia, and was raised in Eden Hills. She has two older sisters. Her father was a swimming-pool salesman, while her mother was an aged care provider. Her parents divorced when she was a child.[3]
Career[]
Snook was interested in the performing arts from a young age. She began attending the National Institute of Dramatic Art after being awarded a scholarship at Scotch College, and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.[3][4] In the following years, she appeared in several stage productions before garnering more attention from a series of Australian films: Sisters of War (2010), Not Suitable for Children (2012), These Final Hours (2013), and Predestination (2014). She then appeared in the American films Steve Jobs (2016) and The Glass Castle (2017).
In 2016, she was cast as the savvy Shiv Roy in Succession. For this performance, Snook was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards, winning one,[5] and won two Golden Globe Awards.[6][7]
In 2014, Snook returned to the West End, portraying all 26 roles in the Sydney Theatre Company's production of The Picture of Dorian Gray. For this performance, she received critical acclaim[8][9] as well as the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress.[10] She is set to reprise the role on Broadway in 2025.[11]
Personal life[]
Snook began dating her long-time friend, Australian comedian Dave Lawson in 2020, and they were married the next year.[12] In May 2023, they welcomed their first child, a daughter.[13][14]
