Gil Eavis is a Democratic U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania. He is portrayed by Eric Bogosian.
Personality[]
Gil is a leftist who avidly disapproves of Logan and his company. Eavis is quite sanctimonious, resorting to underhanded tactics to get ahead despite claiming that they are for the greater good. Eavis also reacts emotionally to a joke Shiv made about lower class people, which further shows his self-righteous nature and results in the two parting ways.
History[]
Season 1[]
Shiv leaves to meet with Gil. His campaign advisor and Shiv's ex-boyfriend, Nate Sofrelli, has been trying to convince Shiv to work alongside him and Eavis. Shiv considers the idea.[1]
Several times during her pre-wedding party, Shiv speaks with Gil. At one point, Kendall and Roman come over and Roman attempts to create conflict, but no one takes the bait. Logan has a quick, heated exchange with his daughter, and before going to bed, finds himself on the staircase beside Gil. The two men have an exchange of words before they separate.[2]
Season 2[]
Gil receives promising polling numbers for his presidential campaign and believes that he will win the election. He tells Shiv that once he is elected, he plans on appointing her to Chief of Staff. This leaves both her and Nate in shock. Later that morning, Shiv jokes about Gil using sanitizer after shaking someone's hand, which Gil doesn't appreciate, and after an exchange, fires Shiv. Shiv, however, claims that she quit.[3]
Logan reading a statement to Congress
During the trial regarding Waystar's cruise-line, Tom is confronted by an aggressive Gil, who persistently questions him about Lester’s nickname "Moe". When asked about missing documents and Greg Hirsch, Tom panics and claims he does not know who Greg is. This leaves the boardroom, as well as Greg who will later testify, in a state of distress. Shiv, alone, tries to make a deal with Gil and Nate, but Gil is uninterested. Logan also stumbles through his responses to Eavis' questions, shifting the blame onto Kendall. However, Kendall surprisingly provides a strong and confident rebuke to Eavis and accuses him of operating on personal bias against Logan and his company. This leaves Eavis fumbling and humiliated.[4]
Soon after, Greg is called to testify before Congress and fumbles his way through the testimony, seemingly nervous in front of Gil.[5]
Season 4[]
Gil is never seen again, however, he is mentioned to be Daniel Jiminez's choice for Vice President.[6] Jiminez narrowly lost the election, so it is probable that Eavis remained in the senate, or possibly retired to private life.
Trivia[]
- Eric Bogosian shared that Sen. Bernie Sanders was the inspiration behind Eavis.[7]
