"Connor's Wedding" is the third episode of the fourth season of Succession and thirty-second of the series overall. It premiered on April 9, 2023 on HBO and Max. It was written by Jesse Armstrong and directed by Mark Mylod.

Premise[]

Before heading to Europe to meet with Matsson face-to-face, Logan tasks Roman with implementing an unsavory first step in his strategic refocus. Meanwhile, Connor fixates on minutia at his wedding.[1]

Plot synopsis[]

While on the way to Connor's wedding, Roman receives a call from Logan. Despite having told Connor that he would attend the wedding, Logan, along with many other Waystar executives, is boarding a plane to meet with Matsson. Logan tasks Roman with firing Gerri for mishandling the cruise scandal. While boarding the plane, Logan informs Tom that Cyd will also be fired.

Roman reluctantly does as he's told and fires Gerri. She claims to be fine though visibly angry with Roman, believing that his unsolicited sexual advances towards her have caused this to happen. Roman then calls Logan, who does not answer, and leaves an angry voicemail, accusing Logan of manipulating him. Kendall and Shiv arrive on the yacht and meet up with Roman, who informs them that Logan will not be attending the wedding. They run into Willa, who says that Connor is freaking out about a "loony cake."[Notes 1] The siblings are then directed to a room where they can be alone, and Shiv is tasked with breaking the news to Connor.

Shiv ignores two calls from Tom, who then calls Roman while Shiv is away. Tom reveals that Logan has suddenly fallen ill and is receiving CPR on the plane and the brothers begin panicking. Tom places his phone by Logan's ear so that Roman and Kendall can talk to their father, assuming he can hear them despite being unresponsive. Roman feels uncomfortable and hands the phone over to Kendall, who tells Logan that he loves him despite not being able to forgive him. Kendall then frantically searches for Shiv and brings her back to the room, where Roman informs them that Logan's heart and breathing has stopped. Shiv immediately breaks down and Roman gives her the phone, believing that Logan may still be able to hear her. Over the phone, Shiv begs her father not to die, not now. Kendall then calls Frank, who tells him that he believes Logan is gone, causing Kendall to break down in tears.

Meanwhile, senior executives on the plane have begun planning a timeline of the events that will follow Logan's death and discuss how to best announce it. Tom calls Greg to relay the news, as well as task him with deleting certain files from his computer. He admits to Greg that he isn't doing well, and cries after hanging up.

The siblings realize that they've yet to inform Connor and bring him in do so. Connor, seemingly quite numb, claims that his father never even liked him and focuses on comforting his siblings. He then leaves to consult with Willa and ask if they should postpone the wedding. Connor admits his worries that Willa will soon leave him and may be with him solely for money. She reassures him that while there is financial safety in being with him, she is happy and does not intend to leave. Hugo informs the siblings that Karolina is drafting a statement regarding Logan's death, but the siblings decide to release a statement themselves the next day. Kendall alerts them that their next actions must be unimpeachable, as whatever they do now will become part of a historic narrative.

Connors wedding 2

Roy siblings share a hug

Connor and Willa humbly have their wedding in front of a handful of guests. The other siblings leave the boat and are flown to the airport at which Logan will be pronounced dead on arrival. Press reporters then swarm the group and Shiv reads a statement they've conducted, announcing his death. She adds that she and her brothers plan to be involved in the company moving forward. After, Shiv allows Tom to console her for a moment. Roman sees that Waystar's stock has plummeted, and the siblings share an emotional hug before going separate ways. Shiv leaves with Tom and Roman says goodbye to Logan, while Kendall watches from afar and fights back tears, as the paramedics load Logan's body onto the ambulance.

Notes[]

  1. ↑ Kendall explains that "loony cake" refers to Victoria sponge cake, which Connor was given for a week straight following his mother's institutionalization to help him "cope."
