Alan Ruck is an American actor. He portrayed Connor Roy, Logan Roy's eldest son, on Succession.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Alan Douglas Ruck was born on July 1, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio. His mother was a teacher, while his father was a factory worker. After high school, he graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.F.A. in drama in 1979.[1] He then moved to Chicago, where he believed he would be given more opportunity.
Career[]
He made his acting debut in 1983, in the film Bad Boys. Two years later, he debuted on Broadway in Biloxi Blues, alongside Matthew Broderick. He continued acting on stage, as well as in a few television films, until 1986, when he had his big break as Cameron Frye in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Broderick, who starred in the film, had encouraged Ruck, who was 28 at the time, to audition. Though the directors were unsure of his age, Ruck was cast due to his and Broderick's undeniable on-screen chemistry.[2] Ruck, pigeonholed by Day Off, then starred in several other comedy roles before his career became almost desolate. He was cast in Succession in 2016[3], which proved to be a career-redefining opportunity for Ruck.[4]
Personal life[]
Ruck married actress Claudia Stefany in 1984. They had two children before divorcing in 2005.[2][4] In 2008, he married Mireille Enos, who had been his co-star on Broadway three years prior. Together, they have two children.[5]
